POLITICALLY INCORRECT NET QWK MAIL SETUP....
I. Some background
What is a QWK mail network? Basically a network of BBS's that use the
standard QWK/REP offline mail scheme to transfer mail around between
each other.
To participate in a QWK based mail network your QWK/REP door must be
capable of creating a special kind of QWK packet called a net status
packet. This status allows your BBS to upload messages from all of it's
users, without having the receiving BBS translate the names to yours.
It also allows your board to import messages from another system and
doesn't change all of the "from" lines to the account name used to
import them.
Unlike FIDO-net and other FTSC setups, a "front end" doesn't take care
of your mail for you, you will need to use a communications program
and write a script to do your mail runs. I've included a batchfile to
help you out, though it won't work without modifying it for your
communication program, and mail tosser.
II. Setting up your conferences.
Once your application is approved you should log into your host under
the account name you wish to use to poll mail (THIS SHOULD NOT BE YOUR
NAME!), and download a QWK packet. The info in the control.dat file
will show you his conference numbers.
Next, configure your BBS software with the correct conference names
for Politically Incorrect Net (use the PIN_ prefix, please).
The next step is the most important!
Set up the type of configuration file required for QWK net xfers,
ensuring that all conferences are directed to the corresponding
conferences on your hub.
III. Test the setup.
The easiest way to test your set up is to set the conferences to read
only (for now), and import a mail packet from your hub. If the messages
appear to be on topic, you should be ready to start sending mail also.
Please make sure the conferences are configured correctly, there's
nothing that bothers sysops more than finding that one of their
downlinks is cross posting messages in 30 conferences.
IV. GET SOME MAIL!
If everything looks right, take off the read only flag, and start
importing and exporting mail.
